The Town of Tarboro is seeking a safety-focused and dependable individual to join our Sanitation Division as an Equipment Operator. Working out of our downtown Tarboro facility, you will play a crucial role in keeping our community clean.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Operating garbage trucks, dump trucks, and related equipment to collect residential and commercial waste
  • Safely navigating routes and schedules, sometimes in narrow streets
  • Loading waste at the curbside and transporting to the landfill for disposal
  • Performing light equipment maintenance checks like fluid levels and tire pressure
  • Following all safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A valid CDL Class B commercial driver’s license
  • Proficiency in operating large vehicles and ability to obtain necessary certifications
  • Physical ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs and spend most of the day outdoors
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work overtime as required
  • Strong communication skills to professionally interface with customers
